Directions to Aspen

In the summer, we highly recommend taking Independence Pass when driving from Denver (or Boulder) to Aspen, which shaves some time off the drive and allows you to see some beautiful scenery. In the winter this pass is closed due to snow, but the opportunity to take it is one of the perks of visiting Aspen in the summer!

The exact directions from Denver via google maps are here, but the general directions are to take I-70 West for just under 90 miles. Then take exit 195 to merge onto CO-91 S toward Copper Mountain/LeadvilleFollow the traffic in Leadville to get on US-24 E. After 14.3 miles take a right on CO-82 W, which will lead you over the pass and directly to Aspen.  If you are leaving from Boulder here are some directions to get you to I-70 West to take you on your way.

For a (slightly longer) alternative, especially if you prefer to avoid the tallest mountain passes, you can also take I-70 West from Denver all the way to Glenwood Springs (about 170 miles). Then follow signs to Aspen on CO-82 East for about 40 miles.

Cell service on the road can be spotty in places, so we recommend that you print out some directions (or load them on your phone) when you have service.
